Daniel McArdle, MA candidate

About Dan

I’m currently an MA candidate in Couple and Family Therapy at Antioch University Seattle. In my previous incarnation I was a graphic designer and art director for decades, garnering valuable interpersonal skills by working with a diverse group of clients and professionals. I’ve been fortunate to live in many places around the US and spent a decade abroad in Hong Kong and Shanghai. While I engaged in pro bono and charity work during my time as a designer, I decided I wanted to help others in a more direct capacity. I believe a career in therapy allows me to make use of my personal knowledge of both relationships and mental health challenges.

I come from an intense family of five children (born within 6 ½ years) and understand the complex dynamics and sibling rivalry inherent to large families. As father to two wonderful young women, I’ve also known the pleasures and challenges of parenthood. I also bring a great deal of lived experience to the table; for example I’ve gone through both a successful decades-long marriage, and a successful divorce. I’m also a recovered alcoholic and can directly speak to the challenges of both addiction and successful sobriety. I’ve also dealt with the difficulties inherent to depression and ADHD, which allow me a deep respect and compassion for others with similar experiences.

Approach

I’m happy to engage with a wide range of clients, from teens and adults to couples and families. I also have personal experience interacting with neurodivergent individuals. I strive to conduct myself with empathy, warmth, compassion, and understanding.

I see the various therapies as invaluable tools, and I can adapt and make use of whichever modalities suit each particular client. While drawn to IFS, narrative, and experiential therapies, I also utilize EFT and other systemic approaches to build a solid foundation.

My goal is to create an authentic, compassionate, and engaged therapeutic space, one in which the client and their needs take precedence. I look forward to the journey we each take in therapy and to facilitating growth and positivity.

When not working with clients I play soccer, travel, and write. I also enjoy hiking and kayaking here in the remarkable Pacific Northwest.
