Aurora fackler-adams, MA Candidate

About Aurora

I am a graduate student at Seattle University in the Couples and Family Therapy program. Before beginning the program, I spent years working in non-profits focused on food access and underserved communities. Over time, I realized that I wanted to work more closely with people themselves. I see my role as creating a space that is free of judgement where you can feel safe to be vulnerable.

In my free time, I do a lot of cold-water swimming, cooking, reading, gardening and spending time with my friends, loved ones, and dog.

Approach

One of my favorite poets, Rainier Maria Rilke, wrote “Have patience with everything unresolved in your heart and try to love the questions themselves as if they were locked rooms or books written in a very foreign language.” This is part of the approach I bring to therapy. I am interested in working with the long reach that family history can have, while also engaging with what’s happening in the present moment. I believe therapy can be a practice of developing curiosity, patience, and eventually tenderness for what we don’t yet understand.

I see therapy as a collaborative process where the client leads. As we work together, I try to balance exploring what is happening in your life that may be bringing you to therapy (such as relationship struggles, life transitions, grief, and much more) with paying attention to the patterns that are alive in the room. Our whole selves follow us wherever we go, and by exploring patterns that show up in the moment in the therapy room, we can begin to understand how those patterns may exist in the rest of our lives.

My approach to therapy is systemic and relational, which means that I’m especially interested in working with intergenerational patterns that shape how we experience our lives. I draw on several systemic theories including experiential therapy and Bowen family therapy. I am also informed by mindfulness.

I know that searching for a therapist can sometimes feel overwhelming and stressful. If any part of what I’ve written here connects with you or your experiences, I would love to meet you.
