I am a systemic trained multicultural therapist; meaning we will look at the many factors (relationships, education, religion, gender, community, culture, etc.) that impact you to best understand and honor you as a whole person. It is important to recognize the profound impact a distressed relationship can have on our overall physical and emotional well-being. Hence, I prefer working from a wellness-oriented, non-pathologizing point of view, meaning no-blame, no-shame. The priority is ending the conflict and recreating a healthy, happy relationship. “Closeness takes courage" and “Secure relationships = Unlimited possibilities” are the primary principles my approach relies upon. One of the main goals is to help you so that you can find your way, walk your own path, and write your own story with another human(s). And to achieve this, experiencing a person is necessary instead of evaluating.
Initially, as a licensed Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist (ASLP), my clinical practice has been in a variety of settings. Most notably, a great deal of my experience lies in rehabilitation practice, working with populations with ADHD, Autism, Dysphagia etc. This experience enabled me to work in collaborative care settings such as outpatient treatment facilities and medical practices. I also hold a master’s degree in Psychology. I practice a respectful and non-judgmental approach to explore the unique challenges of those suffering mentally/emotionally and the impact it can have on their loved-ones.
All of these roads have led me to Andrea Anderson Therapy Services where I welcome the opportunity to partner with couples in their journey to reconnect and experience a more enriching and compassionate life with one another. Therapy can be hard work, but it can be one of the most deeply healing and fulfilling experiences of your life.
